Over the past six years we have been delighted with the positive feedback received from brokerage managers, case workers, teachers and young people alike. Here is a small selection of the feedback received.

Entry to Employment (e2e)

Group of boys fishing on a canalI have accompanied three groups of young people on fishing trips with Martin and have found him to be very patient and encouraging with the young people. Not one person has walked away from the three days and not enjoyed it. In actual fact, I tend to get phone calls asking when the next course is going to be! Anyone working directly with young people will know that for them to actually ring on their own phone to find out about a course is in itself is a major breakthrough!! I would highly recommend Martin and his courses and look forward to summer when we will be using his services again.

Coaching at Twynersh The Entry to Employment (e2e) Brokerage has accessed Martin's services since 2004 as part of its personal and social development activities offering.

We have had a steady rate of referral for those young people with an interest in angling and outdoor activities, as well as for those harder to engage young people lacking in confidence. The boost they all receive in landing a fish, recorded with permission, draws them out of their shells and motivates each and every participant to go onto further activities.

Young boy with large perch PAYP have undertaken several fishing trips with Martin over the last year, with up to four young people at a time, at several locations, experiencing the full range of great British weather conditions!

Without fail, the young people involved have found the days to be immensely enjoyable, and has given them a great sense of achievement when catching a fish, whether it be a 1lb Perch or a 19lb Pike.

Martin is extremely knowledgeable about the sport, and takes the time to go through all the details with the young people, from setting up their fishing site, to catching, unhooking and releasing the fish, to the importance of respecting the environment from which they are fishing from. A great touch is the photos taken of the young people with the fish they have caught, which I have seen them showing their friends with pride.

Overall, these fishing trips have given the young people we work with an experience to remember, stories to amaze their friends with (it was this big...), and often results in a boost to both their confidence and self-esteem.

Young boy with perch The Slough PAYP Team has worked with Martin for the past 3 years and we have had many great success stories. Young people who attend the fishing days thoroughly enjoy the experience and the majority will always ask when the next day is.

We have had young people engage with Martin and the fishing days, who would never be able to sit through a lesson at school or take part in group activities organised for them. But once they have the opportunity to learn how to use the equipment, experience working in the outdoors and actually attempt to catch a fish - they fully appreciate the whole day.

The Westgate School Slough

Young girl with her first perch In life some things are not easy and sometimes things do not go as you would want. This is often the case with pupils during their schooling, they need a direction and some focus in life.

When things have become difficult and pupils need 'time-out' Martin has been there to offer them time, space and given them respect for their achievements.

Their self-esteem grows and they get that all important focus back to their lives. Through the courses that Martin runs he is able to touch and make a significant impact on young people's lives.

It is with great pleasure that I recommend Martin and his courses as he truly is someone who has the precious ability to make a difference to the lives of others through his patience and the willingness to share his knowledge with all around him.

Behaviour Improvement Programme

Young boy with perch I am a retired Police Officer and have known Martin for over 20 years. It was after a chance meeting that Martin and I formed a working relationship. I now manage a small team of Inclusion Mentors who work with vulnerable young people who are entering the difficult time of transition between Primary/Secondary School. The programme that Martin and his team deliver is remarkable. There are children that are in Secondary School now that would not be attending without the fantastic input provided by TryAngling. I have recommended TryAngling to numerous friends and colleagues. Thanks and keep up the good work.

Martin coaching a group of youngsters at Twynersh My main role is to help students overcome any barriers to their learning and eventually help them to realise their full potential. We receive referrals from schools when a child is at risk of exclusion, one of our first ports of call is to refer the children to PAYP, Connexions Active, as they invite children on the TryAngling outings. I have attended several of the fishing trips along with some of the children I support and by the end of the day you wouldn't believe that these are the same children who find it difficult to stay focused in the classroom.

They sit in their fishing chairs (provided by Martin) and they don't move out of their seats unless they shriek to Martin when they have caught a fish! By the end of the day I have witnessed many changes in the children; self-esteem levels have soared, confidence has grown, friendships made, manners improved and a new hobby revealed.

The icing on the cake is when Martin sends me the photos he has taken throughout the day, which I print out and present to the children along with a certificate from Martin to remember their special day.

Martin you make the world of difference to many children, what can I say but thank you and keep up the excellent work.
